The following is a summary of Ren Zhengfei's interview with CNN: (Part):

Reporter: Are you not worried about Huawei's future survival and profitability?

Ren Zhengfei: We will not worry about Huawei's survival. In January and February, Huawei's sales revenue grew by 35.8% year-on-year, and we feel that this year's growth is very strong and we need to control reasonable growth.

Second, we should learn from Apple and make the price higher so that all competitors have a living space, rather than squeezing the market through price reduction. Despite our exclusion today, our prices are still relatively high to maintain good market order. There is no problem with Huawei's survival. Because we haven't been in the U.S. market from beginning to end, we can still develop to today. If one day, the United States suddenly realizes that we are friends and open up the American market, we may do even bigger and stronger. We believe that we have no survival crisis. If the United States says "no more parts to Huawei", it will hurt the American company, because we are the third largest chip purchasing company in the world. If the United States loses so many orders, the financial statements of many American companies will come down and the stock market will fluctuate greatly. Without them, we also have the ability to replace production, so from this point of view, we have no survival crisis. Third, we are the world's poorest high-tech companies, poorer than any other company in the world, but our investment is stronger than any other company in the world. Why? For our ideals and for the future, we have invested heavily in scientific research, ranking among the top five in the world. Our investment in scientific research in the past paid more attention to engineering technology innovation, leading the world in engineering technology; now we pay more attention to theoretical innovation, for a large-scale strategic layout after ten or twenty years, in mathematics, physics, chemistry, brain neurology, brain science... Layout, in the next ten or twenty years, our competitiveness will be stronger. Therefore, we hope to strengthen cooperation with the United States and win-win the world. We don't want to squeeze out American companies. For example, ARM's CPU is more advanced than Intel's X86 CPU, but we decided that ARM's CPU will not be sold in society to ensure that X86's CPU occupies a position in the world. We did not want to beat American companies. ARM's CPU is mainly used in our own machines. Secondly, AI chips, which are also among the top three in the world, may become the second. But we have not sold AI chips outside, just used in our equipment, not to squeeze American companies, no survival crisis.

If the United States itself and China are separated from each other in science and technology, it will bring losses to American companies. If the United States loses a market of 1.3 billion people, the United States will lose a lot, which will soon be reflected in its financial statements. Our company does not care about financial statements because we are not listed and do not need to pay attention to social comments. Because our employees all know that the financial statements are not good because they put a lot of "fertilizer" into the "land", and in a few years the "crops" in the "land" will grow better, so they do not worry about our financial statements. : You just said that if this happens (installing the back door), the company will be shut down. As a bystander, how can you believe such a statement? If you shut down the company, it will destroy the livelihood of Huawei's 180,000 employees, and you will personally face legal risks. Do you say that just to show your principled attitude?

Ren Zhengfei: Our sales in this world have reached hundreds of billions of dollars. We will not make more than 170 countries believe us in order to do a small thing. If we were to accept this instruction, we would have no business in the world and no 180,000 employees, so we would certainly not do this. As for whether we believe it or not, we promise that as long as we do this, it proves that we can't depend on it. The customers will never buy our equipment again. We can't survive at all. Can 180,000 employees survive? Only by not doing so can 180,000 employees survive.

And I don't worry about my personal safety. I'm not old enough. Secondly, China's current law is also very civilized and guarantees the lives of senior personnel. Even if I sit in prison, it is very relaxed, not like ordinary cells. There is no money for dinner. Why not? I'm not worried either. Journalist

: Before I go to the tea break, I'll ask two more questions. In addition to saying that Huawei is a security threat, the U.S. government also said that Huawei stole intellectual property rights of U.S. companies such as T-Mobile. Can you make it clear here and now that Huawei has never stolen intellectual property rights of other companies?

Ren Zhengfei: We can clearly say that Huawei Company highly respects intellectual property rights and will not steal other people's intellectual property rights. In these two cases, we need to believe in the final and fair judgment of the court, rather than let me explain them. Our company has more than 90,000 patents, making great contributions to information platforms all over the world, and has registered more than 11,500 core patents in the United States, which are very important information patents. American law grants us rights in the United States. 因此,我们这么大的创造,这么大的努力,是在为人类做贡献。 Of course, there are some contradictions and setbacks. We hope to draw a conclusion through the open, fair and fair trial of the court, and we obey the trial of the court. Journalist

: Before going downstairs for a tea break, the last question. You say Huawei is not a security threat to the United States. The U.S. government says Huawei is a security threat and clearly calls Huawei a "cheater". Aren't you angry about that?

Ren Zhengfei: I am not angry. The U.S. government needs to think about it. We have tens of thousands of patents all over the world. They have made great contributions to the information society and are of great value to American enterprises. In fact, the American industry is also using our patents, just unconsciously. If American law grants us more rights, we will have more status in the United States in the future. At present, other big companies have not obtained our intellectual property license except for some cross-licensing of intellectual property rights for Apple, Qualcomm, Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung. Journalist

: In the future development of Huawei, which aspect is the most exciting for you? In all future developments, including 5G and servers, which aspects are you most looking forward to?

Ren Zhengfei: What I am most excited about today is the American suppression of us. Because Huawei has gone through 30 years, our team is in a sluggish and declining state. Many middle and senior cadres are reluctant to work hard when they have money. One famous person said that "the fortress is most easily broken from the inside, the fortress is strengthened from the outside." The interior of our fortress is loosening and lazy. With such a pressure from the United States, our interior will be more united, more dense and more united. We are determined to do a good job of our products. My burden is lightened, they work harder, they shout louder than I do, so I can be smart and praise the United States more. I hope they will not oppose the United States. I hope they will not lead our employees to have a narrow national mentality to oppose the United States, nor do they have populist ideas leading to the ultimate backwardness. If we learn from the United States and open up to the outside world, we will one day become a developed company first.
